Websites

These are two websites I own and operate, and developed from concept. I offer them as examples of my writing and conceptual thinking; I am not a web developer.

Carolina Outdoors Guide is a compendium of public recreation in North Carolina, including parks and forests, and camping and hiking directories.

Those who love or are curious about the outdoors in North Carolina can check our directories of links to hundreds of parks and camping and hiking opportunities, or read under Adventures about our visits to specific sites. I also promote the site through Facebook.

Carolina Music Festivals is a comprehensive calendar and guide to multi-act, daylong and multiple-day music festivals in North Carolina.

In addition to pertinent information about more than 100 festivals, such as band lineups, ticket prices and camping options, as I get to festivals I add a page about what to expect at that festival. Click for my photos and essay about MerleFest, a large Americana music festival held each April in Wilkesboro.

I update the site weekly or as new information is available, and promote it thorough Facebook.

Connections Academy by Pearson

From May 2021 to October 2022, I contributed (mostly) weekly blog posts about education and online school topics to the Resource Hub blog for Connections Academy by Pearson online schools.

IQVIA

I typically copy edit internal and external communications for IQVIA, a global health care technology and contract research organization, but am sometimes asked to write up a piece. Click on the story image for the entire article.

Consultwebs

Consultwebs is a website design and digital marketing consultant to law firms. I have written web pages, blog posts and news releases for dozens of personal injury, criminal defense and family law firms. I am typically provided a brief with client name, topic, geographic target, keywords and topics to be covered and/or to be used as subheads.

Below are Word documents for three law practice pages about car accident claims and slip and fall accidents, and two blog posts. Each document contains a link to its contents on the client firm's site.

Living in Style

I was editor of Living in Style magazine, a publication of The News & Observer (Raleigh, N.C.), from its inception until when the magazines division was disbanded and the staff laid off.

Here are two short features from Living in Style:

The Hosta Divide: Is spring the best time to propagate this popular perennial?

Saving the Swarms: Wake County Beekeepers are on the run when phones buzz about honeybees

Along the Way was a last-page travel feature.

See another Along the Way feature, about the State Annual Singing Convention in Benson, on my Carolina Music Festivals site.

The News & Observer

After leaving The N&O, I wrote occasionally for its weekend features sections.
